British parliamentarians have taken on banking barriers for crypto companies
A major investigation into the difficulties cryptocurrency companies face in accessing traditional banking services is launching in the UK. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Digital Assets has initiated a review that will address key aspects of the sector's interaction with financial institutions.
The main focus of the investigation is the challenges crypto businesses encounter when opening bank accounts, as well as restrictions on conducting transfers. According to my data, this is a long-standing and systemic problem: many British banks either refuse to serve crypto companies or impose strict limits, citing regulatory risks and uncertainty.
Banks, payment services, and representatives of the crypto industry itself are invited to participate in the investigation. Materials and evidence will be accepted until August 31. Based on the findings, the group plans to issue official recommendations that could influence further regulatory policy in the country.
Analytical commentary: This investigation is a signal that British authorities are beginning to take the infrastructure problems of the crypto sector seriously. If the recommendations are implemented, we could see a relaxation of banking restrictions, which would be a powerful catalyst for an influx of institutional capital into the UK's digital assets. However, quick solutions should not be expected — the process of aligning the interests of banks and crypto companies will take many months.
