Strategic Alliance: Strategy and Global Giants Invest $15 Million in Protecting Bitcoin from Quantum Threats

Strategy has announced the creation of the Bitcoin Security Consortium, a consortium uniting leading financial institutions and key players in the crypto industry. Participants in the initiative have committed to allocating $15 million over the next three years to ensure the long-term security of the Bitcoin network.
The founding members include giants such as Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy, and Strategy itself. This is not just a formal alliance — it is a signal to the market that the largest BTC holders recognize the critical importance of protecting the protocol for decades to come.
Two Key Missions of the Consortium
The alliance has been set two clear goals:
- Funding developers and researchers — supporting the technical community that directly works on the blockchain's code and security.
- Informing the community — providing objective information about the current state of Bitcoin security.
Strategy CEO Phong Le emphasized: "As long-term holders of BTC, we are interested in ensuring that Bitcoin remains secure for future generations. Funding and supporting developers is a natural way to contribute."
It is important to note that the consortium will not directly make changes to the protocol of the first cryptocurrency or speak on behalf of developers. Each participant independently decides which projects to allocate the designated funds to.
Focus on the Quantum Threat
The consortium's first priority is preparing for long-term risks associated with quantum computing. Strategy stressed that currently, there are no quantum computers capable of posing a mass threat to Bitcoin's cryptography. However, the technical community is already actively working on post-quantum security measures.
"The consortium aims to support this work and provide a reliable reference point for investors, the public, and the media as this field evolves," the official statement reads.
Operational coordination of the Bitcoin Security Consortium will be led by Brink Executive Director Mike Schmidt, who participates in the initiative as a volunteer, maintaining independence from the member companies. In the coming months, the consortium plans to release educational materials on Bitcoin security and continue funding the relevant developer community.
Cryptalist Expert Opinion: The creation of such a consortium is not just charity, but a strategic move by the largest institutional players. They understand that Bitcoin's vulnerability to quantum computers is an existential risk for their multi-billion dollar positions. $15 million is a modest price for insurance against a catastrophe that could destroy trust in the network. Importantly, Galaxy previously launched a similar $5 million program, and now we are seeing a consolidation of efforts — this is the right direction for the entire ecosystem.
