Future Strategy: Strategy Forms Bitcoin Security Consortium with a $15 Million Budget

The largest corporate holder of bitcoin — the company Strategy — has announced the creation of the Bitcoin Security Consortium. This is an ambitious initiative uniting leading financial institutions and crypto companies to ensure the long-term security of the first cryptocurrency's network. Consortium members have already committed to investing $15 million over the next three years.
The founding members include giants such as Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy, and, of course, Strategy itself. This composition is direct proof that institutional players are moving from simply accumulating BTC to actively protecting the infrastructure.
Two Key Goals of the Consortium
The Bitcoin Security Consortium sets two clear objectives. First, direct funding for developers and researchers working on improving blockchain security. Second, informing the broader community about the current state of network security. Strategy CEO Phong Le emphasized: "As long-term holders of BTC, we are interested in ensuring bitcoin remains secure for future generations. Funding and supporting developers is a natural way to contribute."
It is important to note that the consortium will not directly make changes to the bitcoin protocol or speak on behalf of developers. Each participant independently decides which specific projects to allocate the allocated funds to. This is a decentralized approach to security management, fully in line with the spirit of the network itself.
Quantum Risks: Preparation Begins Today
The organization's first priority is preparation for long-term risks associated with the development of quantum computing. Strategy rightly notes that currently, there are no quantum computers capable of posing a mass threat to bitcoin's cryptography. However, as stated in the press release, "preparing post-quantum defenses is an important long-term priority that the bitcoin technical community is already actively working on. The consortium aims to support this work and provide a reliable reference point for investors, the public, and the media."
Operational management of the consortium will be handled by Brink's Executive Director Mike Schmidt, who participates in the project on a voluntary basis, independently of the member companies. In the coming months, the release of educational materials on bitcoin security and continued funding for the developer community are planned.
Expert Opinion: The creation of the Bitcoin Security Consortium is a timely and extremely important step. Previously, Galaxy had already announced the allocation of up to $5 million for protection against quantum threats, and now we see a consolidation of efforts. This is a signal to the market: institutions are not just holding bitcoin; they are investing in its technological future. It is initiatives like these that lay the foundation for the next decade of development of digital gold.
