Hyperliquid in August 2026: a bearish August or an entry point into HYPE?

While some investors are hastily exiting positions in Hyperliquid (HYPE), others see the current drawdown as an opportunity to enter. The market is divided, and August promises to be a month that will determine the token's medium-term trajectory.

Technical Analysis: Correction Within an Uptrend

I view HYPE's drop from $73 to $53 as a technically justified correction, not a trend reversal. The long-term upward momentum remains intact, and the current zone around $53 already looks attractive. However, the range of $46–48 appears to be a more interesting entry point, where denser support could form.

The fundamental reason for the decline is a noticeable drop in trading activity on the platform. In recent months, a significant share of volumes was driven by trades in memory manufacturer and AI hardware stocks, which have lost their former demand. The crash in this sector and the broader decline in the Korean stock market have led to reduced fee collections for Hyperliquid. If activity recovers, it will be a positive signal for the platform and the token's price.

Contrarian View: Seasonality vs. Growth

Not all experts share the optimism. Summer, especially August, is historically a "dead" period for cryptocurrencies. Even in a rising market, activity is minimal during this month. There are no visible prerequisites for a reversal yet — the only scenario that could change the situation is the start of a rate-cutting cycle by the Federal Reserve.

At the same time, the relative resilience of the token itself deserves attention: HYPE is holding up better than many other assets, which indicates a high degree of confidence among holders.

Key Events in August

The month promises to be volatile. On August 6, the next monthly token unlock for the team will take place. Historically, developers do not sell everything at once, and the market usually absorbs this news, but a local dip is inevitable.

A more important date is August 26, when yield accrual under the AQAv2 protocol begins. From that point, 90% of net income from USDC reserves on the platform will be directed to the Assistance Fund for automatic HYPE buybacks every 30 days. The first buyback will only occur on October 3, but the launch of the mechanism itself is a clear positive for the price.

Also worth watching is news about the launch of the permissionless mechanism under HIP-4 on the testnet, which creates additional buying pressure on the token.

Conclusions: What Will HYPE Be Worth in August

The expert consensus is clear: strong growth in August should not be expected. Everyone agrees that further decline is possible, but they differ in their assessment of its depth. Optimists view the month as a window for entry — targeting $46–48, while others consider August a preparatory period before the autumn move. Pessimists see no tools for a reversal until the Fed acts.

My position: August is more a month of accumulation than aggressive buying. The launch of AQAv2 and the buyback mechanism creates a long-term fundamental case, but in the short term, the market will remain under pressure. Key levels to watch are $46–48 on the downside and $60 on the upside. A breakout of either will set the direction for September.
