Fundstrat analysts expect the S&P 500 index to reach the 7900–8000 point mark as early as this month. This is a bold forecast, backed by a number of macroeconomic signals and corporate earnings reports.
In my assessment, the key driver here is the recovery after the recent wave of sell-offs caused by a reduction in leverage. Right now, we are seeing free capital return to the market, and investor sentiment is gradually improving. Strong corporate earnings and easing inflation concerns are laying the groundwork for the so-called "chase for growth."
Special attention should be paid to the artificial intelligence sector. It remains the main trend, and in my opinion, it will determine market dynamics in the coming weeks. The AI theme has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to drive up quotes, and now we are seeing yet another confirmation of this.
Ethereum on par with the giants
Notably, in this context, the analyst singled out Ethereum as a potential leader of the next growth phase. This is an unusual move, given that cryptocurrencies are typically considered separately from traditional markets. However, there is clear logic here: Ethereum is closely tied to the technology sector, especially to memory chip and DRAM manufacturers. It is these companies that are currently setting the pace for the entire market.
According to my data, earnings in the current quarter are already exceeding forecasts by more than $15 per share, and the forecast for 2027 has been raised by another $8, approaching the 410-point mark. By the end of the earnings season, this figure could reach 425. Such numbers suggest that the fundamental base for growth remains solid.
The analyst also drew a parallel with 1997–1998, when the technology sector underwent a correction but was followed by a powerful rebound. He believes the current situation is similar, and the recovery will be led by the "Magnificent Seven," software companies, and Ethereum.
A cautious look at reality
However, not all discussion participants share such optimism. Another expert reminded that the current S&P 500 level is around 7700 points, so a move to 8000 is merely a modest percentage gain. Nevertheless, positive dynamics are observed not only among tech giants: financial corporations, insurance companies, and payment operators are also reporting high earnings. Initial jobless claims have remained below 200,000 for two consecutive weeks, serving as a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
My conclusion: the forecast looks ambitious but not without merit. In this context, Ethereum is not just a speculative asset but an indicator of confidence in the technology sector as a whole. If the market continues its move toward 8000, the cryptocurrency could become one of the main beneficiaries of this rally.
