My analysis shows that under current market conditions, a significant portion of equipment for mining the first cryptocurrency is already operating at a loss. This concerns a worrying 22.7% of the 22 tracked ASIC models—this is not just a statistical margin of error, but a systemic signal of an impending crisis.

Survival Threshold: $46,787

The key indicator for the industry is the so-called shutdown price. This is the level at which a miner's revenue ceases to cover electricity costs. According to my calculations, based on current tariffs and network parameters, for the most energy-efficient machine in the sample, this threshold is approximately $46,787. If Bitcoin falls below this mark, even the most modern equipment will reach zero profitability.

At the time of preparing this material, BTC is trading near $64,860. It would seem there is a safety margin, but one should not be fooled: the spread between models is enormous. Outdated devices with high energy consumption reach the breakeven point much earlier. It is precisely these that form that unprofitable portion of the fleet. For operators, this means a tough choice: either decommission such ASICs or urgently migrate to sites with cheaper energy.

Pressure on the Industry Is Growing

The situation has already led to the first serious consequences. One of the former giants of the industry, the Poolin pool, was forced to resort to Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to restructure debts and maintain operations in Texas. Major public companies have also shifted into austerity mode. For example, MARA reduced its Bitcoin reserves by 29%, directing coins to cover operating expenses and other costs.

Some players are leaving the market altogether. The outflow of capacity is already reflected in the decline of the network's overall hash rate—this is an indirect but reliable confirmation that inefficient equipment is being switched off. Miners' reserves are melting before our eyes: the volume of coins they transfer to over-the-counter platforms has fallen by 72%. They have virtually nothing left to sell.

The combination of these factors makes the $46,787 level a benchmark for the entire industry. As the price moves toward this mark, not a fifth of the equipment will "drop out" of the network, but significantly more. This will create a snowball effect that could radically change the mining landscape.
