AI assistant in the Moscow region has checked over a million medical prescriptions: a new standard of digital medicine

The digital transformation of healthcare in the Moscow region has reached a fundamentally new level. Over six months of operation, the neural network assistant has checked over 1 million medical prescriptions, which has become an important marker of the maturity of the Russian medical AI market.

The system, launched in February 2026, automatically evaluates each prescription against 15 key criteria. These include drug compatibility, the patient's age and gender parameters, as well as risks of overdose and exceeding recommended therapy durations. This is not just a formal check—it is an intelligent filter that works both during in-person appointments and during telemedicine consultations.

How it works

The algorithm is activated at the moment a prescription is issued. It instantly cross-references the patient's data with the prescribed treatment plan and signals potential threats before the medication reaches the patient's hands. According to the region's Deputy Governor Lyudmila Bolataeva, the tool helps select the optimal therapy option, but the final decision always remains with the doctor. The regional Ministry of Health emphasizes: AI does not replace the specialist but merely complements their work, reducing the burden of routine operations.

AI in Russian medicine: a systemic trend

The Moscow region is not the only area where neural networks are being introduced into clinical practice. Similar projects are being developed at the federal level and in individual regions. In Moscow, 200 medical AI services have been tested over six years, 67 of which are already operating in hospitals. More than 2,000 clinics from 75 regions have connected to the city platform "MosMedAI," including algorithms for radiological diagnostics based on imaging.

Yandex is also eyeing this market. At the end of July, the company registered LLC "Yandex Med" to develop medical software. The digital assistant transcribes conversations between doctors and patients, searches for data in the knowledge base, and prepares a brief summary of the medical history.

The use of neural networks extends beyond clinics as well. With their help, complete genomes of bacteriophages—viruses that infect bacteria—were assembled for the first time. Of the 16 samples obtained in the laboratory, all proved viable. This opens new horizons for combating resistant infections.

As an analyst, I see a clear signal in this: the Russian medical AI market has transitioned from pilot launches to large-scale industrial implementation. A million verified prescriptions is not just a number but proof that algorithms can deliver real clinical value. In the coming years, we will witness further consolidation of this market, where key players will include not only government platforms but also major technology corporations. Investors should closely monitor this segment—it has high growth potential, especially against the backdrop of global demand for effective digital healthcare solutions.
