Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk made a resonant statement, supporting the forecast of Cloudflare CFO Thomas Seifert that in the coming years, artificial intelligence activity on the internet will surpass human activity many times over. This is not just a hypothesis, but a logical continuation of the current trajectory of technological development that we are already observing today.
According to Seifert's estimates, voiced during Cloudflare's quarterly report, within five years the volume of non-human traffic could exceed user traffic by a thousand times. Musk, commenting on this dynamic, emphasized that this is not a matter of probability, but of inevitability. Humanity, in his view, will turn into a "statistical rounding error" in the global web.
Reality Outpaces Forecasts
It is telling that recently Cloudflare expected machine traffic to surpass human traffic only by 2027. However, actual data shows that this milestone was already crossed in May 2026. This gap between forecasts and reality underscores the exponential speed of AI agent adoption across all areas of the digital economy.
The impact of this trend extends far beyond simple web surfing. Analysts at ARK Invest predict that by 2030, AI agents will account for nearly 25% of all digital spending, whereas in 2025 this figure was only about 2%. We are talking about colossal sums: by the end of the decade, agents could process online commerce transactions worth up to $8 trillion.
Confirmation from the Industry
My own observations of the market confirm: this is not an isolated opinion. According to HUMAN Security's 2026 report, automated traffic is growing eight times faster than user traffic. From January to December 2025, the monthly volume of traffic from AI agents increased by 187%, with more than 95% of this traffic concentrated in three key sectors: retail and e-commerce, streaming and media, as well as tourism and hospitality.
Imperva data shows that in 2025, 53% of all web traffic came from automated requests. Fastly, in turn, records that bots accounted for 49% of all requests in January 2026, with 99% of them deemed unwanted.
My analysis: We are on the threshold of a fundamental transformation of the internet, where the economy of attention and transactions will be built around machine interactions. For the crypto industry, this opens a window of opportunity: it is blockchain protocols with their verification systems and microtransactions that could become the ideal infrastructure for settlements between AI agents. The only question is which players will manage to occupy this niche first, before "human" traffic finally becomes a statistical error.
