Bitcoin has set a new historical record for weekly growth: +$14,264 in seven days

The past week was a landmark one for the digital assets market: from August 17 to 23, the first cryptocurrency demonstrated an unprecedented weekly gain of $14,264. This is an absolute record in the entire history of observations. At the end of the seven-day period, the asset closed at $77,387, corresponding to a growth of 22.4%.
During the rally, quotes confidently broke through psychologically important levels. On the Binance exchange, the price reached $79,500 — the highest value since mid-May. The dynamics were accompanied by high volatility and significant trading volumes, which confirms the strength of the current momentum.
A New Cycle: Signals from the Gold Market
The analysis of the BTC/GOLD pair deserves special attention. Strive CEO Matt Cole notes that the bitcoin-to-precious-metal ratio twice led the asset's movement against the dollar. In December 2024, BTC/GOLD peaked, although in dollar terms, highs continued to be updated until October 2025. At the bottom, the situation mirrored itself: the minimum against gold occurred in February 2026, while against the dollar — only in July.
"BTC/USD was showing strength, while BTC/GOLD was already signaling a weakening of the bull market," the expert emphasizes. Now, however, the first cryptocurrency has simultaneously broken upward against both the dollar and gold. This provides grounds to speak of a high probability of the bearish phase ending and the formation of a new upward cycle on a 12–18 month horizon.
Cole acknowledges the possibility of a significant correction but expects active demand in the event of a decline. As additional drivers, he highlights the long-term weakening of the dollar and the development of artificial intelligence. The reduction in the cost of intelligence and technology, in his view, will strengthen the premium for scarcity: capital will flow into assets with limited supply — bitcoin and gold.
"Bitcoin will claim an ever-larger share of the growing pool of capital," the analyst concludes, calling the combination of these factors unprecedented for the first cryptocurrency.
In parallel, CryptoQuant contributor under the pseudonym BorisD links the current rally to a chain liquidation of short positions on Binance futures. The mechanics of a short squeeze likely amplified the upward momentum, but structural signals point to deeper reasons for the growth.
My comment: The record weekly gain is an important marker, but the key significance lies in the synchronous breakout of levels against both the dollar and gold. This indicates a shift in the global trend, not a short-term spike. However, investors should remember: high volatility is an integral part of bull markets, and corrections will come.
