Last week, BitMine significantly strengthened its position in the Ethereum market by acquiring 32,447 ETH. This move increased its total reserves to 5.85 million ETH, equivalent to approximately 4.8% of the entire circulating supply of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
Such an aggressive accumulation strategy indicates management's confidence in Ethereum's long-term potential. Notably, a significant portion of the assets — 5.07 million ETH, or about 87% of the total reserves — is already staked. This is not just passive storage, but an active use of capital to generate income.
The expected annual yield from locking up the coins is estimated at $330 million, making staking a key driver of the company's financial performance. As of August 23, BitMine's total assets, including cryptocurrencies, cash, securities, and other investments, reached an impressive $14.9 billion.
This dynamic reflects a broader trend among institutional players, who are increasingly viewing Ethereum not as a speculative instrument, but as a fundamental asset with predictable cash flow. The increase in the share of staked coins reduces the liquid supply on the market, which could support the price of ETH in the medium term.
From my point of view, BitMine's actions are a signal to the market. When a large holder consolidates positions and locks them in staking, it reduces the likelihood of mass sell-offs in the short term. However, it is important to monitor the company's next steps: if staking yields begin to decline or more attractive alternatives emerge, we could see a reallocation of capital, which would create volatility.
