Analyzing the latest data on capital flows in cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), I note a striking concentration of flows. On August 24, the total net inflow into spot bitcoin funds reached $337.6 million, and more than 60% of these funds—$209 million—settled in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) product. This is not just leadership; it is a de facto monopoly on institutional interest in digital gold.
BlackRock—the main beneficiary of the bitcoin boom
IBIT's share of the daily inflow was about 62%, as confirmed by CoinGlass metrics. Importantly, this is not a one-off spike: just a few days earlier, I observed an even more powerful flow of $606 million—the highest figure since May. Total net assets in spot bitcoin funds have now reached $79.16 billion. At the time of analysis, BTC was trading near the $79,400 mark, indicating a stable correlation between capital inflows and price dynamics.
Ethereum funds: sixth consecutive day of growth
In the Ethereum ETF segment, the picture is similar, but with an even more pronounced skew. Investors poured $116 million into spot ether funds, and $90.92 million of that—about 78%—was an inflow into BlackRock's ETHA product. Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust took second place with $12.5 million. This momentum has delivered the largest monthly inflow into Ethereum funds in the last ten months—the current August has become a record. At the same time, ETH itself was trading around $2,473, losing roughly 2.2% over the day, which points to some divergence between fund flows and short-term price.
BlackRock, which manages $15.3 trillion in assets as of June 30, 2026, dominates both categories. This makes the company a key channel for institutional access to cryptocurrencies since the launch of ETFs in January 2024.
My expert view: The concentration of inflows into BlackRock products is a signal that major players prefer the most liquid and regulated instruments. However, such centralization carries risks: if IBIT or ETHA face outflows, the market will feel it more acutely than with a diversified fund structure. Keep an eye on these metrics—they will become an early indicator of a trend reversal.
