Pitbull's announcement of a new album titled Pitcoin instantly triggered a wave of speculation in the memecoin market. Within the first 24 hours, tokens named after the upcoming release surged in price by roughly 100%, with daily trading volume exceeding $583,000. This is a classic example of how a prominent artist's name becomes a trigger for hype in the crypto community.

Anonymous Launch and Growth on Solana

The rapper announced the album on his X social media account, but none of the Pitcoin tokens have received official approval from either the artist himself or his label. The main token, PITCOIN, began trading in a Solana (SOL) pool on August 12 — literally just minutes after the album's title became public. Interestingly, the issuer is an unknown individual, which adds risk for those who decide to participate in this game.

At the time of analysis, the token is trading on PumpSwap with liquidity of $54,387, and its daily trading volume is 14 times higher than that of the second most active Pitcoin pool. A new version of the token also appeared in a Uniswap V4 pool on the Robinhood network, and in less than seven hours its value skyrocketed by 207%, reaching a market capitalization of $35,475. Meanwhile, most copies went unnoticed: dozens of tokens under the name Pitcoin have a market cap below $3,000.

A Familiar Scenario: From Musk to Kanye

This situation repeats a standard pattern that I observe every time a celebrity's name goes viral. In February 2025, Elon Musk posted an image of Dogefather, and within hours developers launched new memecoins, two of which grew by 122% and 137% in a matter of minutes. A similar story occurred in May when Musk changed his nickname to Gorklon Rust — Gork tokens surged by 7000%.

Kanye West, on the other hand, warned his followers that all cryptocurrencies named after him are fake, but ultimately launched his own token, YZY. Pitbull, for now, remains silent, and his X post, which garnered 115,500 views, merely invites fans to visit the album's pre-order page.

My conclusion: Such memecoins are pure speculation without fundamental value. Until the artist himself confirms involvement, any investment in Pitcoin is a zero-sum game where only the initial pool creators win. Be cautious and do not give in to emotions.
