While the market consolidated, several landmark events occurred in the industry: from a strategic alliance of payment industry giants to the discovery of a critical vulnerability in hardware wallets. We break down the key news that will set the tone for trading in the coming days.

Market: Bitcoin holds positions, altcoins show mixed dynamics

Bitcoin (BTC) was trading near $79,815 by 09:00 Moscow time, gaining 1.28% over the day. Volatility remained moderate: the range was $78,600 – $81,200. Ether (ETH) showed minimal growth of 0.14%, holding near $2,498, with intraday fluctuations limited to the $2,480 – $2,535 corridor.

Among the top 25 coins by market capitalization, Solana (SOL) became the clear growth leader, rising 5.48%. Monero (XMR) also stood out with a gain of 2.73% and Gram (GRAM) — up 1.95%. Only a few assets ended in the red zone: Canton (CC) lost 2.6%, Litecoin (LTC) fell 0.94%, and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) — 0.71%.

In the top 100, the best result was shown by the memecoin Official Trump (TRUMP), which surged 23.73%. It was followed by Ethena (ENA) with a rise of 11.81% and Jupiter (JUP) — up 8.39%. The day's laggards were SPX6900 (SPX), which lost 5.2%, Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) — down 3.92%, and Morpho (MORPHO) — a decline of 3.64%.

Fund flows indicate a renewed appetite for risk: spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $242.24 million, Ethereum ETFs — $234.51 million. Solana products added $60.91 million, Hyperliquid — $24.42 million, XRP — $18.47 million. Over the day, $424.84 million in positions were liquidated, with the main blow hitting shorts — $253.77 million versus $171.08 million in longs. The largest liquidation order was executed on Binance for the ETHUSDT pair at $12.40 million.

Dunamu and Visa: a new round of institutional integration

Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest exchange Upbit, has entered into a strategic partnership with Visa. The parties intend to jointly develop stablecoin payments, international transfers, and financial services based on artificial intelligence. Of particular interest is the discussion of business models based on the dollar stablecoin OUSD under the Open Standard. Specific parameters for launching services have not yet been disclosed, but the very fact of an alliance with a payment giant is a powerful signal for the market.

OneKey vs Ledger: transaction substitution attack reproduced

OneKey founder under the pseudonym Yishi stated that his team reproduced a transaction substitution attack in the Ledger Ethereum application version 1.22.1 under laboratory conditions. The essence of the vulnerability: due to a conflict between display logic and the transaction buffer, an attacker can rewrite the operation while the user studies the legitimate one on the screen. As a result, the user confirms one transaction, while the device signs another that it does not display.

According to Yishi, the issue was fixed in version 1.22.3. Ledger confirmed that the vulnerability concerns I/O handling in the SDK, not the operating system or device firmware. Fixes were released in SDK version 26.6.1 back on August 21, but users need to update applications through Ledger Live — a firmware update alone is not enough. No signs of exploitation of this vulnerability in real attacks have been found.

Middle Eastern capital enters crypto banking

UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his partners own 49% of WLTC Holdings, a holding created for the future World Liberty Financial bank. The stake is structured through the entity StringZ Holding RSC, while about 38% belongs to a company linked to the Trump family. In August, the OCC granted World Liberty preliminary conditional approval to create a national trust bank that will issue, redeem, and custody the USD1 stablecoin. Tahnoon already invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial in January 2025, receiving 49% of the company itself. Before the bank's launch, regulatory requirements must be met and a final review passed.

My comment: the Dunamu and Visa partnership is yet another confirmation that stablecoins are ceasing to be a niche tool and are becoming part of the global financial infrastructure. As for the Ledger vulnerability, the situation reminds us of the importance of defense-in-depth: even the most secure devices can have weak points in peripheral software. I recommend hardware wallet users to update applications in a timely manner, not just the firmware.
