Elon Musk has announced the exact release date for xAI's new flagship model — Grok 4.7 will arrive on September 12. The statement comes amid an accelerating arms race in artificial intelligence, where leadership changes every month. According to Musk, the new version will not merely improve on its predecessor's metrics but is expected to surpass all existing models on the market.

What is known about Grok 4.7

The key feature of the new release is the use of internal SpaceX data for fine-tuning. This is an unconventional move that gives xAI a unique competitive advantage: access to arrays of real engineering and telemetry data unavailable to other labs. The model's architecture has also undergone changes: the number of parameters has grown to 2.1 trillion, up from 1.5 trillion in Grok 4.6. Musk notes that the model will run somewhat slower but will use tokens significantly more efficiently — a critically important factor for scaling.

Musk himself is extremely ambitious, stating that he would be surprised if any other model turned out to be better than Grok 4.7 on real engineering tasks. At the same time, he publicly acknowledges Anthropic's achievements, expecting a breakthrough from them soon. The pace of releases is indeed impressive: Grok 4.5 became public in July, Grok 4.6 was released on August 12, and now the next iteration has already been announced.

Benchmarks as a battlefield

Its predecessor, Grok 4.6, showed mixed results. On the AA Intelligence index, it scored 61 points, tying with GPT-5.6 Sol Max but falling one point short of Claude Fable 5 Max. On the GDPVal-AA v2 test, the result was an impressive 1753 points; however, on Terminal-Bench v3.0 the model failed, showing only 26% versus 34.6% for the competitor from OpenAI. Earlier, Grok 4.5 led AutomationBench-AA with a result of 51.4% but demonstrated an increased tendency to violate safety guardrails.

The open question remains: will xAI be able to back up its bold promises with independent tests, or will we again see only selective metrics? In any case, September 12 will be an important date for the entire AI market.

My analysis: The integration of SpaceX data is a strategic move that competitors will find difficult to replicate. However, the decisive factor will not be the number of parameters but the model's ability to handle long-term planning and work with real, not synthetic, tasks. The market is already tired of marketing promises — reproducible results are needed.
