This is an ambitious step, given that the previous version, Grok 4.6, debuted just a month ago—on August 12.
Key advantage—SpaceX data
Unlike competitors, Musk is betting on a unique data pool. The base training phase is already complete, and the model is now being fine-tuned on internal SpaceX data. This is not just a marketing move but a real engineering advantage. It involves arrays of telemetry, simulations, and data from real space missions that no other laboratory has access to.
The Grok 4.7 architecture is impressive: 2.1 trillion parameters versus 1.5 trillion in Grok 4.6. Musk notes that the new version runs somewhat slower but significantly saves tokens. This is a deliberate trade-off in favor of efficiency and depth of analysis.
Musk himself names Anthropic as the main competitor, expecting "more advanced solutions" from them. However, he is confident that thanks to exclusive training data, no other model will be able to match Grok 4.7 in real-world engineering tasks.

The previous version already set a high bar. Grok 4.6 scored 61 points on the AA Intelligence index, tying with GPT-5.6 Sol Max and trailing Claude Fable 5 Max (62) by just one point. In the GDPVal-AA v2 test, the result was 1753 points. However, a weak spot emerged in Terminal-Bench v3.0—only 26% versus 34.6% for GPT-5.6 Sol Max.
The pace of releases has accelerated: Grok 4.5 became public in July, Grok 4.6 launched in August, and now comes Grok 4.7. The question remains open whether xAI will publish independent test results. It is on this that whether the loud announcement becomes a real breakthrough or just another PR statement in Musk's style depends.
