Huawei's HarmonyOS 7: Betting on AI Agents and the openPangu 2.0 Ecosystem

Chinese tech giant Huawei has officially announced the seventh version of its operating system, HarmonyOS. The key development vector for the platform is deep integration of artificial intelligence and the creation of infrastructure for AI agents.

The main innovation is a completely redesigned voice assistant, Xiaoyi. It can now manage over 2,100 system functions and, more importantly, interact with 2,000 third-party AI agents. This transforms HarmonyOS 7 into a true hub for artificial intelligence, where users gain access to a whole pool of specialized AI assistants.

openPangu 2.0 Ecosystem

Alongside the OS, the company introduced openPangu 2.0, an updated family of language models optimized for operation within the HarmonyOS ecosystem. These models will serve as the foundation for developing applications with AI features on the Huawei platform.

The stable release of HarmonyOS 7 is scheduled for fall 2026. This gives developers enough time to adapt their solutions to the new architecture.

Market Context

According to fresh data from analysts at Counterpoint Research, in the first quarter of this year, HarmonyOS's share of the Chinese mobile operating system market reached 19%, already surpassing iOS, which stood at 16%. This is a serious signal for the entire industry: Huawei is not just holding its ground but actively increasing its influence in one of the world's key markets.

Expert opinion. Integrating AI agents at the operating system level is not just a feature but a paradigm shift. If Huawei succeeds in implementing the claimed ecosystem with 2,000 third-party agents, we will witness the emergence of a new model for human-device interaction. For the crypto industry, this could mean the advent of native AI wallets and automated trading agents operating directly within the OS.
