IREN completes the acquisition of Nostrum Group: entry into the European market and 490 MW of new capacity

Mining company IREN has officially completed the acquisition of AI data center developer Ingenostrum, S.L., known as Nostrum Group. This strategic deal marks IREN's entry into the European market and significantly strengthens its position in the field of high-performance computing.

Key Deal Parameters

As part of the acquisition, IREN gains access to approximately 490 MW of secured capacity located in Spain. These are not just ready-made facilities, but projects with already confirmed grid connections — a critical factor amid the global shortage of energy resources for data centers. Additionally, IREN's portfolio has been expanded with a number of promising projects in the development stage.

Team Integration and Synergy

A key asset of the deal is also human capital. The Nostrum team, comprising over 50 highly qualified specialists, will fully transition to IREN's staff and continue working under the mining company's brand. This ensures the preservation of expertise in designing and operating infrastructure for AI workloads.

Analytical Perspective

This acquisition is not merely geographic expansion. IREN is strategically diversifying its business, shifting focus from pure Bitcoin mining to providing computing power for AI. The European market, especially Spain with its abundance of renewable energy sources and favorable regulations, becomes an ideal platform for developing this direction. In my professional opinion, this is one of the most astute moves among public miners in 2024, creating long-term value for shareholders.
