China launches mass production of silicon-28: a breakthrough for quantum computing

The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has officially announced the start of serial production of silicon-28 with an isotopic purity exceeding 99.99%. This event marks the first independent large-scale production of this material in China's history, which holds strategic significance for the development of advanced technologies.
Silicon-28 is an isotope of silicon that plays a key role in the creation of silicon-based quantum computers. Its main advantage is its ability to significantly reduce the level of magnetic interference, which is one of the primary causes of qubit instability. Previously, the production of high-purity silicon-28 was limited and concentrated in the hands of a few Western companies, creating a dependency for Chinese industry.
