IREN completes acquisition of Nostrum Group: a strategic entry into the European energy market

Mining corporation IREN has officially completed the acquisition of Spanish data center developer for artificial intelligence — Ingenostrum, S.L., known as Nostrum Group. This move marks not just a corporate merger, but a systemic entry by IREN into the European continent, where the company gains access to 490 MW of already secured energy capacity in Spain.
Synergy of mining and AI infrastructure
The acquisition of Nostrum Group is not only about expanding geographic presence. A significant pool of high-performance computing projects is added to IREN's portfolio. Given that modern Bitcoin mining is increasingly competing for resources with the artificial intelligence sector, such diversification appears particularly timely. The integration of teams and infrastructure will allow IREN to flexibly redistribute energy consumption between cryptocurrency mining and servicing AI workloads depending on market conditions.
Human capital asset and operational model
A key intangible asset of the deal is the Nostrum team, comprising over 50 highly qualified specialists. All of them are transitioning to IREN's staff and will continue working under the mining giant's brand. This means the company is not just buying "hardware" and electricity contracts, but acquiring ready-made expertise in designing and operating data centers within European regulatory and energy realities.
Expert opinion: This deal is a classic example of consolidation in the industry. IREN is not just increasing hashrate, but building hybrid infrastructure capable of serving both blockchain and traditional cloud computing. In the long term, this reduces the company's dependence on Bitcoin price volatility and ensures a more stable cash flow through contracts with clients from the AI sector.
