Analysts at Standard Chartered predict explosive growth of DeFi to $2.7 trillion by 2030.

The decentralized finance (DeFi) market is on the verge of a massive transformation. According to my analysis of the latest data, the total value locked (TVL) in DeFi protocols could reach an astronomical $2.7 trillion by the end of 2030. This represents a 37-fold increase compared to current levels.

Two fundamental factors will be the key catalysts for this boom: tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) and the rapid development of on-chain protocols. Currently, only about 3% of stablecoin issuance and roughly 10% of all tokenized RWAs are utilized in DeFi. By 2030, this share could grow to 30%, which will drive the main influx of capital.

However, scaling to $2.7 trillion will require not just an increase in volumes, but a ninefold growth in the share of tokenized value involved in the DeFi ecosystem. This is an ambitious goal, and industry experts are already pointing out potential pitfalls. For example, issuing the same asset on different blockchains creates fragmented liquidity and increases operational costs. Moreover, tokenization itself is not a "magic wand" for illiquid assets—it does not automatically make them liquid.

In this context, the Uniswap platform deserves special attention. Analysts see it as a potential hub for RWA trading. Institutional players are likely to choose Uniswap due to its established reputation and high level of security. Partnerships with traditional finance could help Uniswap significantly narrow the market capitalization gap with giants like Coinbase.

Let me remind you that the trend of shifting interest from speculative Bitcoin trading toward stablecoins and RWAs is already being recorded. Consultants and institutional investors are increasingly viewing these instruments as a more stable and promising foundation for long-term growth.

My comment: The forecast looks ambitious but realistic, provided that the issues of liquidity fragmentation and tokenization standardization are resolved. The growth of DeFi to $2.7 trillion is not just a number—it is a signal that decentralized finance is ceasing to be a niche phenomenon and is becoming a full-fledged part of the global financial system.
