IREN acquires Nostrum Group and strengthens its position in Europe with new 490 MW capacity

Mining giant IREN has made a strategic move by completing the acquisition of an AI data center developer — Ingenostrum, S.L., better known under the Nostrum Group brand. This deal marks IREN's official entry into the European market and a significant expansion of its energy portfolio.

As a result of the acquisition, the company gains control over approximately 490 MW of secured capacity located in Spain. This is not just about purchasing ready-made facilities — the portfolio also includes a range of promising projects that IREN intends to develop independently. To me, this is a clear signal: IREN is betting on geographic diversification, reducing its dependence on a single region while simultaneously increasing its capacity to power its ASIC farms and AI clusters.

It is important to note that the Nostrum team, comprising over 50 highly qualified specialists, will fully transition to IREN's staff. They will continue their work, but now under the parent company's brand. This is not merely an asset purchase — it is an acquisition of expertise and local connections, which is critically important for the rapid deployment of projects in Europe with its complex regulatory environment.

Analytical commentary: From my perspective, this acquisition is one of IREN's smartest moves in recent times. Combining mining and AI infrastructure in one package with guaranteed access to energy is a formula for success in the post-halving era. European capacity, especially in Spain with its well-developed solar and wind generation, provides IREN not only with resources but also with a "green" image, which is increasingly required by major investors. The market should assess this correctly.
