IREN completes the acquisition of Nostrum Group and strengthens its presence in Europe
Mining company IREN has officially completed the acquisition of AI data center developer Ingenostrum, S.L. (Nostrum Group). This deal represents a strategic move that allowed IREN to enter the European market and significantly expand its operational capabilities.
Under the agreement, IREN gains access to approximately 490 MW of secured capacity in Spain, as well as an additional project portfolio. Importantly, these capacities are already connected to the power grid, which is critical for mining operations and AI data centers.
The Nostrum team, comprising over 50 specialists, will transition into IREN's structure and continue working under the mining company's brand. This ensures the preservation of expertise and operational efficiency in the new market.
Deal Analysis
With the acquisition of Nostrum Group, IREN not only diversifies its assets but also gains a strategic advantage in Europe, where demand for energy-intensive AI computing is growing exponentially. 490 MW is a significant volume that can be used for both mining and cloud computing.
My professional opinion: This deal demonstrates a trend toward consolidation in the mining industry, where major players seek to integrate both infrastructure and human capital. IREN is betting on the European market, which is currently less saturated compared to North America but offers stable regulatory conditions and access to green energy.
