A Quadrillion for Musk: $998.9 Trillion, Factories on the Moon and Mars — A New Perspective on Wealth
Elon Musk openly stated that the status of a quadrillionaire is not a fantasy, but a "very real" goal. However, achieving it will require not just assets on Earth, but full-fledged factories on the Moon and Mars. According to estimates, he is short of the coveted quadrillion dollars by approximately $998.9 trillion — and the entrepreneur not only does not dispute this figure, but is also confident that such sums can only be accumulated beyond our planet.
Mass and Energy Instead of Money
Musk's response to recent calculations on social media drew attention to a fundamental question: where is the upper limit of wealth creation on a single planet? In his opinion, it is impossible to accumulate such sums with "Earthly" assets alone. "It's real, but it definitely requires factories on the Moon and Mars," the businessman emphasized.
Moreover, Musk pondered what currency would even mean in the future. He did not name its replacement, but suggested that the very concept of money could completely change: "By that time, I think dollars won't be the currency anymore. Only mass and energy." This statement is not just a philosophical remark, but a logical continuation of his long-term strategy.
Musk's Volcanic Lair
All this rhetoric unfolds against the backdrop of SpaceX's rapid growth. The company conducted a record IPO on the Nasdaq with a valuation of $2 trillion and briefly entered the top six most valuable US companies. Musk previously predicted that by 2030, SpaceX's revenue could reach $1 trillion, although in 2025 it expects to earn $18.7 billion.
The same logic is evident in all of the billionaire's projects. Under a contract with SpaceX, he will receive 200 million shares with enhanced voting rights if a permanent colony of at least one million people is established on Mars. The first crew for a flight around Mars has already been formed, and it includes a crypto billionaire.
Musk did not miss the opportunity to joke that he would finally get that "volcanic lair" he has repeatedly mentioned publicly with a smile. Presenting the boldest ideas through references to science fiction is his signature style.
My analysis: Musk's idea that a quadrillion-dollar fortune is only possible through the colonization of other planets actually calls into question the very essence of capitalization in traditional markets. For the crypto industry, this is a signal: if the future of wealth is mass and energy, then decentralized assets backed by real resources could become a bridge between the Earth's economy and space expansion. The only question is who will be the first to create liquidity for such assets.
