IREN completes the acquisition of Nostrum Group: entering the European energy market with 490 MW of capacity

Mining company IREN has successfully completed the acquisition of Spanish AI data center developer Ingenostrum, S.L., known as Nostrum Group. This strategic deal marks IREN's entry into the European market and significantly strengthens its position in the global high-performance computing infrastructure.
Under the agreement, IREN gains access to a portfolio of secured capacity in Spain totaling approximately 490 MW. This not only increases the company's operational potential but also opens access to more diversified and stable energy sources, which is critical amid the volatility of the cryptocurrency market. The acquisition also includes additional projects in the development stage, allowing IREN to scale its operations in Europe.
Nostrum Team: Integration and Synergy
An important aspect of the deal is the retention of key personnel. The Nostrum team, comprising over 50 specialists, will transition to IREN's structure and continue its work under the mining company's brand. This ensures operational continuity and preserves expertise in the design and operation of AI data centers.
Analytical Commentary: The purchase of Nostrum Group is not merely geographic expansion. It signals that IREN is betting on synergy between mining and AI infrastructure. The European market, with its strict environmental regulations and high electricity prices, requires operators to be highly efficient. Integrating capacity in Spain, where renewable energy is actively developing, could give IREN a competitive advantage through access to "green" energy under long-term contracts. In the medium term, this could reduce operational risks and increase business margins, especially during periods of declining hash rate.
