A Quadrillion for Musk: Why Factories on the Moon and Mars Are Essential

Elon Musk is seriously considering the possibility of achieving quadrillionaire status. By his own admission, this would require not just an increase in the market capitalization of existing companies, but the creation of a fundamentally new economy—beyond Earth. Social media users calculated that the billionaire is about $998.9 trillion short of the coveted quadrillion dollars. Musk did not refute this figure; instead, he supported the idea: accumulating such sums, in his opinion, would only be possible through production on the Moon and Mars.

This statement is not just a futuristic fantasy. It clearly defines the upper limit of wealth creation on a single planet. According to Musk's assessment, it is impossible to accumulate such sums with "Earthly" assets alone. He envisions a future where the very concept of money will undergo a radical transformation. "By that time, I think dollars will no longer be the currency. Only mass and energy," the entrepreneur emphasized.

The Space Race for Trillions

These words come amid the rapid growth of SpaceX. The company conducted a record IPO with a valuation of $2 trillion on the Nasdaq and briefly entered the top six most valuable companies in the U.S. Musk previously predicted that by 2030, SpaceX's revenue could reach $1 trillion, although in 2025 the company expects to earn $18.7 billion.

The same logic is evident in all of Musk's projects. Under a contract with SpaceX, he will receive 200 million shares with enhanced voting rights if a permanent colony of at least one million people is established on Mars. SpaceX has already formed the first crew for a flight around Mars, which includes a crypto billionaire. Musk did not miss the opportunity to joke that he would finally get that "volcanic lair" he has often smilingly mentioned publicly. Presenting the boldest ideas through references to science fiction is his signature style.

Cryptalist Analysis: Musk's musings about a quadrillion are not so much a financial forecast as a manifesto. He shifts the discussion of wealth from the realm of market capitalization to the realm of resource base. For the crypto industry, this is a signal: the future lies in the tokenization of not only finances but also fundamental assets such as energy and mass. Those currently building infrastructure for the extraterrestrial economy may find themselves at the forefront of a new era where traditional fiat standards lose their meaning.
