China has launched mass production of silicon-28: a breakthrough for quantum computing

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced the start of serial production of silicon-28 with an isotopic purity exceeding 99.99%. This event marks the first time the country has independently produced this material on a large scale.

Silicon-28 is a critical component for creating silicon-based quantum computers. Its unique properties allow for a significant reduction in magnetic interference, which directly affects the stability of qubits — the basic elements of quantum systems.
