China launches mass production of silicon-28: a breakthrough in quantum computing
China National Nuclear Corporation has announced the start of mass production of silicon-28 with an isotopic purity exceeding 99.99%. This event marks the country's first independent large-scale release of this material, representing an important step for Beijing in the race for technological leadership.
Silicon-28 plays a critical role in the creation of silicon-based quantum computers. Its key advantage is the ability to significantly reduce magnetic interference, which directly enhances the stability of qubits and, consequently, the accuracy of computations.
