Elon Musk on the path to quadrillion: $998.9 trillion and factories on Mars
Elon Musk is once again stirring minds with his ambitious statements. Recently, social media calculated that the founder of Tesla and SpaceX is short by approximately $998.9 trillion to reach the coveted status of "quadrillionaire." And what is most notable — Musk not only did not refute this figure but also called it "quite realistic." However, there is one fundamental condition: achieving such a scale of wealth would require factories on the Moon and Mars.
According to the entrepreneur, accumulating a quadrillion dollars solely through "Earthly" assets is impossible. He believes that the very concept of money will undergo radical changes in the future. "By that time, I think dollars will no longer be a currency. Only mass and energy," Musk emphasized. This statement is not just a futuristic fantasy but a logical continuation of his strategy for space exploration.
Space Economy as a New Frontier
SpaceX, Musk's main asset, is demonstrating explosive growth. The company conducted a record IPO with a valuation of $2 trillion on Nasdaq, briefly entering the top six most valuable companies in the U.S. Musk previously predicted that by 2030, SpaceX's revenue could reach $1 trillion, although in 2025 the company expects to earn $18.7 billion. These figures clearly illustrate how much perceptions of private company valuations have changed.
Interestingly, the same logic is evident in SpaceX's contracts. Under the terms of a bonus program, Musk will receive 200 million shares with enhanced voting rights if a permanent colony of at least one million people is established on Mars. And the first crew for a flight around Mars has already been formed — it includes a crypto billionaire.
Musk did not miss the opportunity to joke that he would finally acquire that "volcanic lair" he has often smilingly mentioned publicly. Presenting the boldest ideas through references to science fiction is his signature style.
Analyst's opinion: Musk's idea of transitioning from fiat money to "mass and energy" as a universal equivalent of value is undoubtedly a radical view of the future. However, given the pace of development of his space projects, it cannot be ruled out that such concepts will form the basis of the economy of the first interplanetary community. For the crypto industry, this is a signal: decentralized and resource-oriented models may gain a new impetus for development beyond Earth.
