Ethereum storms $1800: $2.8 billion in aggressive purchases over 6 hours — what this means for the market

Ethereum's (ETH) return to the $1800 mark was not a coincidence. The market witnessed a powerful surge of aggressive buying on the Binance exchange, which set a record in intensity over recent days. The total Taker Buy Volume over six hours reached $2.8 billion, with over $1 billion of that amount occurring in just one hourly interval. This is the highest figure since June 5, when the asset was trading around $1605.

The timing of this surge is critically important. Earlier this month, a similar wave of aggressive buying was observed at lower levels, but now it coincides with a breakout of a psychologically and technically significant threshold. This indicates that the move above $1800 was not merely a result of market dynamics, but rather the outcome of concentrated buying pressure from buyers ready to drive the price higher.

Psychological Threshold and Growth Potential

A sustained hold above $1800 signals the readiness of major players to support the upward momentum following a bounce from the $1510 low. However, there is a flip side: if the momentum weakens, the hourly $1 billion surge could turn out to be just a short-term liquidity spike, rather than the start of a broad trend. For now, the order flow data on Binance confirms that the breakout was backed by one of the strongest hourly waves of aggressive buying in the last ten days.

Nevertheless, the overall picture for Ethereum remains mixed. Analysts note that the asset is undergoing a prolonged capitulation phase that has lasted for several months. Under normal conditions, such a level of stress would correspond to a bottoming process, but the key issue is that selling pressure has not yet subsided. A bottom forms only when sellers exhaust their strength.

Against this backdrop, Bitcoin (BTC) is giving the market some breathing room, which could act as a catalyst for ETH. The founder of MN Fund, Michaël van de Poppe, is more confident. He has long identified the current level as an excellent spot buying opportunity on a 6–12 month horizon. In his view, the next step will be a breakout of the 0.03250 level in the ETH/BTC pair and a return to a pronounced upward trend.

My comment: The current surge in buying on Binance is a powerful bullish signal, but it does not negate the structural weakness of the market. To confirm a sustainable trend, Ethereum needs not only to hold above $1800 but also to form a higher low, which remains uncertain for now. Keep an eye on the volume and dynamics of the ETH/BTC pair—these are key indicators for the medium-term outlook.
