The CHIRON project has been launched, aimed at creating a scalable infrastructure for secure data transmission using quantum key distribution (QKD) technology. This is not just a laboratory experiment — the consortium is deploying real-world test sites in Berlin and Thuringia, integrating quantum communications into the country's existing digital ecosystem.

A key participant is the state-owned company Bundesdruckerei, known for its solutions in secure documents and digital identification. It will take on the testing of quantum-secured access tokens.
