The Department of Energy has published a list of 26 priority tasks, and as documents show, a significant portion of them focus on nuclear deterrence, weapons production, and nonproliferation.

The Essence of "The Genesis Mission"

The executive order, signed by Trump on November 24, 2025, provides for the creation of the "American Platform for Science and Security." This is an infrastructure that combines supercomputers from national laboratories, secure cloud AI environments, and scientific datasets. The goal is to accelerate scientific discoveries, strengthen national security, and ensure "energy dominance." The platform will support model training, simulations, AI agent operations, and process automation. The Department of Energy has been appointed as the responsible body, with Deputy Secretary for Science Dario Gil leading the project. The timeline is tight: within 60 days — identify at least 20 tasks, within 90 — inventory resources, within 120 — select initial data, within 270 — demonstrate operational capability.

Nuclear Block: Seven Key Areas

Of the 26 tasks published on February 12, seven are directly related to the nuclear complex. These are not just theoretical studies — it involves deep integration of AI into critically important processes:

  1. Nuclear Threat Assessment. Development of a multimodal AI system combining sensor data, modeling, and intelligence. The goal is to reduce response time from days to hours.
  2. Archive Digitization. Converting classified data on nuclear tests and experiments spanning 80 years into digital format using text recognition, computer vision, and 3D reconstruction.
  3. Increasing Facility Throughput. An AI "operating system" for planning and adjusting experiments in real time.
  4. Integration of Design and Production. Reducing the cycle of creating new weapons systems "in a fraction of the traditional time and cost."
  5. Nonproliferation. Using multimodal models to analyze satellite imagery and sensor data, identifying anomalies related to the spread of nuclear materials.
  6. Optimizing High-Hazard Facility Operations. Automating safety requirements analysis and documentation preparation using LLMs and AI agents. The goal is to reduce planning time by more than 50%.
  7. Nuclear Forensics. Accelerated analysis of samples and debris to determine the origin of materials after an incident.

A separate task concerns accelerating the development of materials for strategic deterrence, including testing new methods of plutonium purification using AI agents.

Red Lines and Risks

It is important to emphasize: the documents contain no mention of transferring the right to make decisions on the use of nuclear weapons to AI. The Pentagon and the National Security Council clearly state that the "button" remains with humans. However, as Stanford senior research scholar Herbert Lin notes, concerns arise from the broader integration of AI into threat analysis and risk assessment. AI cannot be perceived as a source of guaranteed truth, especially in such sensitive areas.

My analysis: "The Genesis Mission" is not just a scientific program but a strategic step toward the digital transformation of the U.S. nuclear complex. Accelerating processes through AI is inevitable, but the key challenge is ensuring the reliability and verification of algorithms. An error in threat assessment or in the production cycle could have catastrophic consequences. The market should closely monitor how the Department of Energy addresses the "black box" problem in such critical systems.
