HPE combines Cray supercomputers with quantum technologies: a new stage of hybrid computing
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced a strategic expansion of its partner network, joining forces with leading players in the quantum industry. The partners include Intel, IQM, Qblox, Quantinuum, QuEra Computing, Quantum Machines, Rigetti, and Riverlane. The goal of the alliance is to create full-fledged hybrid computing systems that combine classical supercomputing power with quantum processors.
Architecture-Level Integration
HPE plans to integrate its flagship supercomputing platform, HPE Cray, directly with quantum processors, qubit control systems, and error correction software solutions. This is not about simple connectivity, but deep architectural compatibility, where quantum accelerators become part of a unified computing pipeline.
As part of the initiative, specialized testbeds will be established. These will allow alliance members to jointly develop and test hybrid algorithms, verify software compatibility at the level of low-level drivers and APIs, and assess the real-world performance of such systems in tasks that are beyond the reach of classical computers.
