The XRP leverage on Binance has reached a yearly high: what this means for the market

The Estimated Leverage Ratio (ELR) for XRP on Binance has surged to 0.1899 — the highest level since the beginning of 2026. This increase occurred as XRP trades near the $1.24 level, signaling a significant rise in trader activity in the derivatives market.

This metric reflects how aggressively market participants use borrowed funds to open positions. The current spike in ELR indicates that traders' reliance on leverage has sharply increased, especially compared to previous months when the ratio fluctuated between 0.15 and 0.18 and unsuccessfully attempted to break through the upper boundary.

Leverage Dynamics and Market Risks

The rise in ELR coincided with an improvement in XRP's price dynamics following periods of decline. This reflects the return of trader activity and a revival in the derivatives market. However, high leverage also carries significant risks. Any sharp price movement could trigger a wave of liquidations for both long and short positions, potentially leading to increased volatility.

History confirms this caution. In mid-March 2026, when the ratio on Binance rose above 0.18, XRP subsequently fell by more than 17% — from around $1.50 to approximately $1.27 amid position unwinding. The continued rise in ELR also suggests that traders are increasingly active in the derivatives market compared to the spot market, making the market more sensitive to sudden fluctuations.

Expert Analysis

The current situation resembles a classic "pump" scenario ahead of a possible correction. When leverage reaches extreme levels, the market becomes overheated, and the likelihood of a sharp reversal increases. Traders should closely monitor support and resistance levels, as any price movement could trigger a cascade of liquidations. Under such conditions, risk management becomes critically important, especially for those using high leverage.
