The AI agent market in Singapore: Anthropic's Claude is rapidly catching up to ChatGPT

The Singaporean market for AI tools for startups is undergoing a tectonic shift. Anthropic's Claude model is experiencing explosive growth, significantly narrowing the gap with the dominant ChatGPT from OpenAI. According to fresh data from the fintech platform Aspire, over the past year, the number of paying Claude clients among Singaporean startups has increased by 258%, and spending on this platform has grown 17-fold.
Competition Dynamics
Just a year ago, OpenAI led Anthropic by more than four times in the number of paying startup clients in Singapore. Today, this gap has narrowed to 1.5 times. Claude's share of total startup spending on AI platforms has reached 37%, indicating a significant redistribution of budgets.
General Trend Toward AI Tools
Overall, the Singaporean startup ecosystem is actively adopting artificial intelligence: the number of companies using AI tools has grown by 42%. It is particularly telling that the number of startups working with three or more platforms simultaneously has more than doubled. This indicates market maturity and a business desire to diversify risks rather than relying on a single provider.
My analysis: The rapid growth of Claude is not just a temporary spike but a signal that the AI agent market is entering a phase of real competition. Startups are no longer willing to tolerate a monopoly by one player, especially when alternatives offer comparable performance and more flexible terms. If Anthropic continues to accelerate, we could see parity between Claude and ChatGPT in key Asian hubs as early as next year.
