SpaceX acquires Cursor for $60 billion: a strategic alliance of AI and space

Aerospace giant SpaceX has officially announced the acquisition of the artificial intelligence service Cursor. The deal is valued at $60 billion, highlighting the growing convergence between space technology and advanced AI developments.

According to the terms of the agreement, the transaction will be conducted exclusively in SpaceX Class A shares. The exchange ratio is calculated based on the volume-weighted average closing price of these shares over the seven trading days preceding the deal's closing date. This approach ensures transparency and market fairness for both parties.

Key Deal Details

The closing of the deal is expected in the third quarter of 2026, pending all necessary regulatory approvals. Importantly, as early as April of this year, SpaceX obtained the right to acquire Cursor for the same amount of $60 billion, or to pay an alternative compensation of $10 billion under an earlier joint work agreement. The choice in favor of a full acquisition indicates SpaceX's long-term strategic plans to integrate AI technologies into its space programs.

In my view, this deal is not merely a financial transaction but a landmark step demonstrating how traditional industries, including aerospace, are actively absorbing the AI sector. The $60 billion valuation for the Cursor service likely reflects not only its current market position but also the enormous potential for synergy between AI and space data, including navigation, autonomous systems, and satellite information analysis. The market is closely watching this precedent, which could set a new direction for M&A in the high-tech sector.
