Anthropic is hot on the heels of OpenAI: Claude is taking over Singapore's startups

The Singaporean market for AI tools for startups is undergoing a tectonic shift. Data analysis from the fintech platform Aspire shows that Anthropic's Claude has made a real breakthrough, narrowing the gap with the dominant ChatGPT from OpenAI to a minimum.
Claude's Explosive Growth: Numbers That Speak for Themselves
Over the past 12 months, the number of paying Claude customers among Singaporean startups has surged by 258%. But an even more impressive metric is the growth in spending on this platform, which has increased 17-fold. This indicates that startups are not just trying Claude, but are actively integrating it into their business processes, moving to more expensive plans and scaling its use.
A year ago, OpenAI's advantage was overwhelming: the number of paying startup clients for ChatGPT in Singapore exceeded Anthropic's by more than four times. Today, this gap has narrowed to 1.5 times. Moreover, Claude's share of total spending by Singaporean startups on AI platforms has already reached 37%.
The Market is Growing, Competition is Intensifying
The overall trend is also telling: the number of startups in Singapore using any AI tools has grown by 42%. At the same time, an interesting trend towards multi-platform usage is observed — the number of companies working with three or more AI platforms simultaneously has more than doubled. This indicates that startups are no longer relying on a single provider and are diversifying their risks, choosing the best solutions for specific tasks.
My analysis: Claude's growth is not just a temporary spike. Anthropic has managed to carve out a niche where AI safety, interpretability, and ethics are important. Singaporean startups, many of which operate in highly regulated sectors (fintech, logistics, healthcare), value these characteristics. If Anthropic maintains its pace, by the end of the year we could see Claude become a major competitor capable of taking a significant market share from OpenAI in the Asia-Pacific region.
