How to properly top up a crypto account: an investor's guide

Topping up your cryptocurrency wallet is the first and most important step for any trader or investor. How competently you perform this operation affects not only the speed of entering the market but also the security of your funds.

First of all, you need to choose a suitable top-up method. The most common way is to transfer from an exchange to your personal wallet. To do this, you will need to copy the wallet address (usually a long string of characters or a QR code) and enter it in the "recipient address" field on the sending platform. Important: always check the network you are sending funds through. For example, USDT can be sent via the ERC-20, TRC-20, or BEP-20 networks. An error in choosing the network will result in loss of funds.

An alternative method is to buy cryptocurrency directly through P2P platforms or using a bank card. Here, the key factor is the fee: it can vary from 0.1% to 3% depending on the provider. I recommend always comparing rates on several platforms to avoid overpaying.

After sending the transaction, monitor its status in the blockchain explorer (e.g., Etherscan for Ethereum). The average confirmation time depends on network congestion and the gas fee you set. For Bitcoin, this can take from 10 minutes to several hours; for Solana or BSC, it takes seconds.

Important warning: never send funds to an "old" address if you haven't verified it. Some wallets generate new addresses for each transaction to enhance privacy. Always copy the address immediately before sending.

Analyst's comment: In my opinion, security when topping up an account is not just a technical detail but a fundamental skill. I strongly recommend that beginners first send a test transaction with a minimal amount (e.g., $1-5) to ensure all data is correct. One wrong click could cost you your entire deposit.
