Claude is rapidly catching up to ChatGPT in Singapore's startup ecosystem: 258% growth
Singapore's artificial intelligence ecosystem is undergoing a tectonic shift. Over the past year, I have observed an impressive surge in the popularity of Anthropic's Claude among local startups. The number of paying customers for the service has skyrocketed by 258%, while spending on this platform has increased 17-fold. This is not just statistics — it is a signal of market share redistribution in the AI assistant segment.
A year ago, the situation was radically different: OpenAI had more than four times as many paying startup clients in Singapore as Anthropic. Today, the gap has narrowed to 1.5 times. Claude's share of total spending on AI platforms among Singaporean startups has reached 37% — this already poses a serious threat to ChatGPT's dominance.
Diversification of AI tools is becoming the norm
The overall trend of AI adoption in Singapore's startup environment is also impressive: the number of companies using AI tools has grown by 42%. Particularly telling is that the number of startups working with three or more platforms simultaneously has more than doubled. This indicates market maturity — entrepreneurs are no longer tied to a single vendor but choose the best solutions for specific tasks.
My analysis: Claude's growth is not a coincidence but the result of Anthropic's strategic work on model safety and accuracy. However, ChatGPT should not be written off: OpenAI retains an advantage in scale and brand recognition. The main takeaway for the market is that competition in the AI assistant segment is just beginning, and Singapore's startups are serving as the perfect testing ground for new solutions.
