Claude is hot on the heels of ChatGPT: Singapore startups are switching to Anthropic

AI agents

The AI assistant market in Southeast Asia is undergoing a tectonic shift. Anthropic's Claude model is experiencing explosive growth among Singaporean startups, rapidly closing the significant lead of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

According to fresh data from fintech platform Aspire, the number of paying Claude clients among local startups has increased by 258% over the past year. An even more impressive metric is the growth in spending on this service: it has increased 17-fold. Claude's share of total AI platform spending by Singaporean startups now stands at 37%.

Just a year ago, the picture was fundamentally different: OpenAI had more than four times as many paying startup clients as Anthropic. Today, that gap has narrowed to 1.5 times. This indicates that Claude is not just catching up, but is purposefully capturing market share from its main competitor.

The overall trend of AI adoption in Singapore is also impressive: the number of startups using any AI tools has grown by 42%. At the same time, companies are increasingly diversifying their technology stacks: the number of startups working with three or more AI platforms simultaneously has more than doubled.

My analysis: Claude's growth is not just a statistical anomaly. It is a signal that the AI assistant market is beginning to mature. Startups no longer want to depend on a single provider, especially given recent scandals surrounding OpenAI's privacy policy. Anthropic, on the other hand, positions itself as a more ethical and secure choice. If this dynamic continues, we could see parity between Claude and ChatGPT in key Asian hubs as early as next year.
