World Liberty Financial is on the verge of obtaining a trust banking license in the United States: a new phase of institutional growth.
The World Liberty Financial project, associated with Donald Trump's family, is close to receiving conditional approval for a national trust bank license. This was stated by the company's co-founder, Zach Witkoff. According to the registry of the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, as of January 6, 2026, the application of World Liberty Trust Company, N.A. is listed as pending review.
What this means for the ecosystem
Obtaining this license is not just a formality, but a strategic step that will radically expand the project's operational capabilities. If approved, World Liberty Financial will gain the right to issue and redeem its own stablecoin USD1, as well as manage its reserves. Additionally, the entity will be able to provide digital asset custody services for institutional clients — a segment that is currently one of the fastest-growing in the crypto industry.
Reserve policy and transparency
The stated reserve management model deserves special attention. It is planned that funds will be placed in dollar deposits at financial institutions, money market funds backed by U.S. government securities, as well as highly liquid cash equivalents. This approach not only meets the strict standards of traditional banking but also sets a precedent for integrating DeFi tools into the regulated financial system.
Expert opinion
From my perspective, this step demonstrates the market's maturity: major players are moving from speculative schemes to building sustainable infrastructure. If the license is approved, we will see not just another stablecoin, but a full-fledged bridge between decentralized finance and the traditional U.S. banking sector. This could become a catalyst for mass adoption by institutional investors.
