The digital ruble in action: first transactions and architecture of the new payment system

One of the key legislators in the financial market, Anatoly Aksakov, became one of the first to personally test the digital ruble in real-world conditions. His practical experience allows for a detailed analysis of how this third form of national currency works.

Payment Mechanics: External Simplicity and Internal Complexity

From the perspective of an ordinary buyer, the process of paying with the digital ruble is no different from the usual debiting of funds from a bank card. However, the key technological difference lies in the financial infrastructure.

To conduct transactions, Aksakov opened a special account in the Bank of Russia system, linking his personal mobile phone number to it. The transfer begins in the standard application of the commercial bank where the client is served. After pressing the "digital ruble" button, the system automatically redirects the user to the regulator's platform.

Next, the user selects the recipient and instantly sends the funds. According to the legislator, technically the procedure does not differ from a regular payment, for example, in a restaurant. Aksakov himself has already successfully paid with the new currency at an establishment that had previously opened a digital account. Commercial organizations operate on the same scheme, freely accepting funds, making transfers, and paying for services.

Main Difference from Non-Cash Money

The main difference lies in the vector of cash flow movement. In regular payments, rubles move between commercial entities. The digital version always remains within the perimeter of the Bank of Russia. On the platform, amounts are simply transferred from one balance to another, increasing the overall speed of transactions.

Salaries in the new rubles will be credited to an isolated special account. The balance is displayed in the usual banking application but exists separately from other funds.

Official Launch and First Transactions

The first company to send an official budget payment in the new currency was the enterprise "Smak-Agro." The transfer amount was 125,000 rubles.

The digital ruble is absolutely equivalent to cash and non-cash funds. Citizens and companies will store this money in special wallets on the Central Bank's platform. The law on the introduction of the new payment form comes into force on September 1, 2026. Already now, all major retail outlets and banks are required to provide Russians with the opportunity to make purchases in digital format.

Analytical Commentary from Cryptalist: The introduction of the digital ruble is not just a technological update, but a strategic step towards the full monetization of cash flow under state control. The key risk I see is the potential loss of a significant portion of liquidity by commercial banks, which could lead to a revision of their business model. However, for the retail user, the gain in transaction speed and transparency is obvious.
