OVHcloud integrates Quobly's quantum computer into its cloud platform: a new milestone for silicon qubits

French cloud provider OVHcloud has announced a significant expansion of its Quantum Platform. By the end of 2026, the company's sovereign cloud will feature Alloy Pioneer — the first commercially available quantum computer from startup Quobly. This system is based on silicon spin qubits, which fundamentally distinguishes it from traditional superconducting or ion trap systems.

The key advantage of Quobly's technology is the use of industrial 300-millimeter FD-SOI wafers. This standard is already widely used in semiconductor manufacturing, paving the way for mass scaling of quantum computing without the need to create fundamentally new infrastructure. Unlike many competitors, Quobly does not require extreme cooling to millikelvin temperatures — its system operates at temperatures close to liquid helium (around 4 Kelvin), significantly simplifying operation.

The integration of Alloy Pioneer into the OVHcloud platform is not just a technical experiment. It is a strategic step aimed at democratizing access to quantum computing for European enterprises and research institutes. OVHcloud positions its platform as sovereign, which is especially important amid growing geopolitical tensions and the EU's pursuit of technological independence.

From a market perspective, this event marks a transition from laboratory prototypes to commercial products. Silicon spin qubits promise higher stability and smaller physical dimensions, potentially allowing millions of qubits to be placed on a single chip. However, practical implementation of quantum supremacy in such systems is still several years away.

My expert assessment: The partnership between OVHcloud and Quobly is one of the most pragmatic approaches to quantum computing adoption I have seen recently. The use of existing FD-SOI semiconductor manufacturing capabilities sharply lowers the barrier to scaling. If Quobly can maintain its stated qubit coherence levels at a commercial grade, we may witness the birth of a new industry standard — quantum processors that can be produced on the same factories as conventional chips.
