xAI launches Grok Imagine Video 1.5: a new standard for AI video generation
xAI has officially released its new video generation model, Grok Imagine Video 1.5, from preview mode. This image-based tool focuses on three key aspects: realism, correct motion physics, and high rendering speed. Alongside the main model release, an accelerated version of the technology has also been made available to users.
The model is already integrated into the Imagine API under the identifier grok-imagine-video-1.5. Additionally, xAI has deployed the Video 1.5 Fast version, accessible via the web service grok.com/imagine, as well as in iOS and Android apps.
Key Improvements and Speed
The main performance boost comes from the Fast version. While the previous model required over 40 seconds to generate a 6-second clip at 720p resolution, the new one handles this task in approximately 25 seconds — nearly a twofold acceleration. Video length and resolution remain unchanged.
However, the most interesting aspect is the qualitative changes. Now, sound accompaniment, background atmosphere, and character dialogue are created in a single pass and perfectly synchronized with the on-screen action. Character speech has become much clearer, and object movement is more stable and believable. There are fewer deformations, and more inertia and weight. Alongside the model, xAI is introducing workflow-friendly features: projects in the sidebar, parallel execution of multiple generations, and convenient search through the personal media library.
Early users who tested the model for several weeks have generally given positive feedback, calling the team's work high-quality. However, there are also critical remarks. Attentive viewers noticed an unfortunate typo in the product name in promotional material. Additionally, the community is requesting the addition of voice references for creating characters with consistent sound — a feature already available in competing services.
Users are also asking for full versions of Video 1.5 and Imagine Pro to be made available not only through the API but also in the app and on the website, even with limitations. There are separate complaints about abrupt changes in the interface and increased content moderation for adult users.
Expert opinion: Grok Imagine Video 1.5 is a confident step forward for xAI, especially in the segment of realistic physics and audio synchronization.
