Atom Computing and Nu Quantum join forces to build scalable quantum networks using photons.

The quantum computing market is taking another step toward practical implementation. Atom Computing and Nu Quantum have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at scaling quantum systems based on neutral atoms. The main goal of the partnership is to integrate Atom Computing's computational platforms with Nu Quantum's dynamically reconfigurable photonic networking equipment.

Key areas of work include the development of integrated photonic switches, technologies for entangling qubits with photons, and modeling distributed fault-tolerant architectures. This approach will allow multiple quantum processors to be connected into modular systems capable of performing computations on a practical scale.

Of particular interest is the use of photonic networks for communication between quantum nodes. This addresses one of the main challenges of the current generation of quantum computers—the limited number of qubits in a single processor. Instead of increasing the number of qubits in an isolated system, the companies propose building distributed networks of smaller but reliable modules.

In my view, this collaboration demonstrates the maturity of the approach to quantum computing, where the focus shifts from a race for qubit count to creating practically applicable architectures. If photonic switching truly enables efficient entanglement of remote qubits, we may witness the emergence of the first commercially viable quantum computing clusters within the next few years.
