Chinese quantum computer Origin Wukong receives PQC protection: over 1 million tasks completed in secure mode

China's superconducting quantum computer Origin Wukong has achieved a breakthrough by integrating a post-quantum cryptography (PQC) architecture. This event marks an important step in protecting computations from future threats posed by quantum systems themselves. To date, the system has successfully completed over 1 million computing tasks in a secure mode.

The 72-qubit computer uses the built-in software module Origin Rock. This solution ensures data transmission protection against both attacks using classical algorithms and potentially devastating quantum attacks. Developers from the Anhui Province Quantum Chip Laboratory emphasize that the PQC framework prevents data theft for future decryption — the so-called "harvest now, decrypt later" attack.

The technology is already being tested at Chinese enterprises and government institutions. Since its public launch, Origin Wukong has been operational for over two years, recording 49 million visits from users in 192 countries. This indicates high interest in the platform and its global reach.

The implementation of protection aligns with China's strategic plan to establish national post-quantum cryptography standards. Authorities aim to approve them within the next three years to ensure critical infrastructure security. Against this backdrop of progress, it is worth noting that earlier Quantus developers pointed out the cryptocurrency industry's unpreparedness for transitioning to PQC, despite obvious advances in quantum computing.

Expert opinion: Integrating PQC into a working quantum computer is not just a technical achievement but a signal to the market that the threat of quantum hacking is becoming real. The crypto industry needs to accelerate the adoption of post-quantum standards, otherwise it risks remaining vulnerable to attacks that can already be prepared today.
