Oman unites miners: mandatory connection to the national pool changes the rules of the game

Oman is making a strategic move in regulating the cryptocurrency industry — all licensed mining companies are now required to operate through a single national pool. This project, launched by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology with the participation of Frontier Technologies, marks a new era of centralized control over digital asset mining in the region.

Enegix Global provided the technological foundation and liquidity infrastructure for the pool. In the initial phase, it is planned to consolidate approximately 10 EH/s of computing power — placing Oman alongside notable players on the global mining map. This centralization will allow authorities to effectively monitor and regulate the flow of hashrate, as well as optimize tax and energy revenues from the industry.

Large-scale infrastructure investments

Since 2022, total investments in mining and data centers in the Salalah Free Zone have exceeded $700 million. A key project is a $370 million hydro-cooled mining facility — one of the most technologically advanced sites in the region. These investments demonstrate Oman's long-term commitment to becoming a hub for sustainable mining, leveraging available energy resources and a favorable geographic location.

Mandatory connection to the state pool is not just a technical requirement, but a tool for creating a transparent and controlled ecosystem. For miners, this means losing some autonomy, but in return — stability, access to liquidity, and protection from repressive measures by regulators.

Expert opinion: Oman's decision is a logical step for Middle Eastern countries seeking to legalize mining while maintaining control over the industry. Mandatory consolidation into a national pool could become a model for other jurisdictions, but it reduces attractiveness for decentralized miners who value independence. In the long term, those who can balance regulation and innovation will come out ahead.
