Alchemy and Visa launch AgentCard: AI agents get their own payment tools
The cryptocurrency and blockchain technology market continues to integrate with artificial intelligence. The Alchemy platform, in partnership with Visa, has introduced the AgentCard service — a solution that allows AI agents to independently make online purchases on behalf of the user. This is not just another step in automation, but a fundamental paradigm shift: neural networks are becoming full-fledged participants in the global economy.
What is AgentCard and how does it work
The integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce provides AI agents with a full set of digital data: a virtual Visa card, an email address, a phone number, and a cryptocurrency wallet. Developers need just one API request to configure the agent's access to payments in less than a minute. Agents based on OpenAI or Anthropic models will be able to book tickets, order groceries, and renew subscriptions — without user involvement in the checkout process.
Control and security
The system supports spending limits, store category restrictions, and customizable budgets. By default, payments are processed through Visa tokens, allowing users to retain bank bonuses and credit lines. If the merchant accepts digital assets, the service can use a crypto wallet. The AgentCard protocol automatically selects the optimal payment method based on merchant support.
Expert perspective
This step marks the beginning of an era where AI agents cease to be mere tools and become economic entities. Previously, MetaMask announced a wallet for the era of autonomous AI, and Coinbase launched a service for connecting agents to user accounts. However, the Alchemy partnership with Visa is the first instance where traditional financial infrastructure legitimizes the actions of neural networks on a global level. In my professional opinion, this sets a precedent for the mass adoption of autonomous agents in the everyday economy, but also raises questions about security and accountability for AI actions.
