Matt Damon and Ripple join forces: blockchain against the global water crisis

The largest annual Ripple Swell conference, scheduled for October 27-29 in New York, is preparing not only technological announcements but also a major social statement. The main surprise is the participation of Hollywood actor and philanthropist Matt Damon, who will deliver a speech on the synergy of charity and blockchain technologies.

Damon, founder of the Water.org foundation, will present a new ambitious program called Get Blue, launched in January 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The initiative aims to provide safe drinking water to 200 million people worldwide by 2030. Over the years of its work, Water.org has already helped improve living conditions for 70 million people, and now the organization is betting on advanced financial technologies to scale its projects.

The key tool for accelerating the humanitarian mission will be Ripple's infrastructure. The company has been granted the status of an exclusive partner in the field of digital assets. Using the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin and the Ripple Payments network, the fund will be able to transfer funds to local credit organizations in Latin America, Asia, and Africa almost instantly, bypassing slow and expensive traditional banking channels. This will allow directing initial funding to the field without delays, which is critical for promptly addressing water supply issues.

Ripple's Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz confirmed that the upcoming Swell will be the largest event in the company's history. For the first time, the conference will merge with the XRPL Apex developer summit, bringing together over 1,500 participants, 50 thematic sessions, and three stages. The latest updates to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem are expected to be presented. Since 2017, Ripple has invested over $550 million in the network's development, confirming its long-term bet on transforming XRPL into the basic infrastructure for institutional investors.

The XRP token itself maintains strong positions among the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. It is obvious that traders will closely monitor the conference announcements — it is often the loud statements at Swell that become a catalyst for a powerful investment impulse for the asset.

Analyst's opinion: The partnership with Water.org is not just a PR move. Ripple is demonstrating a real use case for cross-border payments, where speed and low transaction costs have direct social significance. If the Get Blue program proves effective, we will see a wave of interest from other major NGOs and government organizations, which will strengthen RLUSD's position as a tool for global settlements.
