Ethereum Foundation loses key executive: Xiao-Wei Wang steps down

The Ethereum Foundation continues to undergo significant personnel changes. Co-Executive Director of the organization, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure from both the leadership position and the foundation's board. This decision was made after the completion of a sabbatical she took to reassess her goals.
In her statement, Wang emphasized that the departure is related to a reassessment of personal priorities and a desire to focus on other areas of her life. This came as a surprise to the Ethereum community, given her key role in managing the foundation over the past few years.
This is already the second significant loss for the Ethereum Foundation's leadership in a short period. In February 2025, Tomasz Stańczak, who also held the position of Co-Executive Director, left a similar role. In response to his departure, Bastian Aue was appointed as interim Co-Executive Director, who will now likely take on even more responsibilities.
Such a series of resignations raises questions about the internal stability and strategic direction of the foundation. Amid growing competition from other blockchain platforms and the need to scale Ethereum, the loss of experienced managers could slow down key decision-making.
Analytical Commentary: The departure of two co-executive directors in a row is a worrying signal for the Ethereum Foundation. Although the formal reasons are related to personal circumstances, such high-level personnel turnover may indicate internal disagreements or a shift in management priorities. For long-term ETH investors, this is a reason to closely monitor how the foundation will build a new leadership structure.
