The Ethereum Foundation loses a key executive: Xiao-Wei Wang's departure signals a strategic shift

Ethereum ETH Efir 2025

The organization behind the development of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization is undergoing another personnel restructuring. Co-Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially left her post and stepped down from the foundation's board. This decision was made after the conclusion of her sabbatical.

In her statement, Wang emphasized that her departure is related to a reassessment of personal priorities and a desire to focus on other projects. To me, this is a clear signal: even in the most resilient decentralized ecosystems, turnover in top management is inevitable and often indicates an internal realignment of strategic goals.

This is not the first loss for the Ethereum Foundation in 2025. In February, Tomasz Stańczak left a similar role, forcing the organization to promptly appoint Bastian Aue as interim co-executive director. Such a series of departures suggests systemic changes in the foundation's management structure.

In my view, the departure of two key figures in such a short period is not a coincidence but part of a planned transformation. The Ethereum Foundation is likely reviewing its governance model to adapt to new market challenges, including network scaling and competition from faster blockchains. Investors should closely monitor future appointments: they will determine the development trajectory of the entire ecosystem for years to come.
